12 Years a Slice of Life tells the story of Henry’s escape from a life of servitude to a life of freedom. In the movie, he purchases a freedom marked down ox cart and uses it to trek to freedom. Along the way, he gathers other like minded people who were also on the run from slavery to find their destiny and start a new life in Mississippi. While trying to make his way to freedom, he saves other women who have been abused and learns that he has a family that he plans to marry. The true story of Henry gives a much needed look to what true freedom is all about and why it is important to continue to fight for our freedoms.
