4 Travel Tips For Visiting Kenya

by Manish Singh

Kenya is a stunning African country, and one that is popular with visitors and those moving abroad to find the ideal work-life balance. The country has so much to offer and is such a rich, vibrant, exciting place, that it can feel a little daunting when you visit for the first time. There is so much to see and do there and you will not want to miss out on anything. To get the most out of your trip to Kenya, here are some useful tips. Read on to find out more.

Driving In Kenya

The very best way to see Kenya in all its glory is to have your own car. Depending on just what you want to do when you are there, you can choose from a variety of different vehicles. Kenya is well known for being an excellent place to have some off road fun in a 4×4, for example.

However, if you are not looking for adventure in your car but simply want to drive it around to find other things to do, a standard car will be fine. The roads can be rather bumpy and many are still unmade, but that is part of the fun and without a car you would miss out on a lot.

If you are anxious about driving yourself then you can hire a car and a driver to help you. Not only does this mean you can sit back and really enjoy the scenery, but you can get lots of advice about the best places to visit while you are there, and you never have to worry about getting lost.

Visit The Mara

There are many wonderful things to do in Kenya, but not much can beat a safari on the Mara, perhaps the most famous wildlife reserve in the country. The best way to experience it is not to book yourself onto a low-budget tour. If you do this, you will be crammed into a small vehicle with lots of other people, and apart from being extremely hot and uncomfortable, you will find it difficult to see anything at all.

The best thing to do is travel out of season, and the months of February, March, and June are particularly good for this. Those tours might not be running, but there will be others and although they might be linked to the smaller reserves around the edge of the Mara, you will be a lot more comfortable and see a lot more than you otherwise would. Walking tours are also wonderful, although they can also be dangerous so ensure you book through a reputable source and never attempt to walk – or even drive – through a game reserve by yourself.

Enjoy Nairobi

Nairobi is the largest city in Kenya and is also its capital. For some, this means they will make a direct beeline to see it. Others will deliberately stay away, not wanting to be anywhere too busy or too ‘touristy’.

Although the city can certainly get busy, it is well worth a visit. It is a beautiful place and you can even treat yourself to a night in one of the big new hotels that are being built there. Many people have fallen in love with Nairobi – and Kenya as a whole – and have even gone on to seek advice from the Kenya Property Centre about buying a house or apartment there, so there must be something impressive about it. Even if you only visit for one day, Nairobi is a place that needs to be seen and experienced.

The Best Time To Visit

You will find that most countries have ‘good’ and ‘bad’ times to visit. What constitutes good or bad is really down to the individual, so it is worth investigating Kenya more to determine when might work for you.

As a rule, though, it is important to note that Kenya’s dry season starts in July and goes on to October. This makes it a popular and therefore busy time to visit; the sun is out all the time, and there is the Great Migration to witness over the plains of the Mara. However, January to March can also be a wonderful time to visit Kenya; the weather is still great but cooler than it is in the height of summer, and if you want some beach time, you will find it much less crowded but still perfect weather for swimming, sun bathing, or enjoying watersports – snorkeling is particular popular – when the weather is good you can have as much as 30 meters visibility in the water.

The cheapest time to visit is in June, or between February and March, but these months, and particularly the earlier ones, can be memorable due to the many baby animals being born at that time.

No matter when you choose to visit Kenya, there is always going to be something to do. Whether you are the adventure type who wants a surprise from one day to the next or you prefer to have a schedule to stick to and plan everything in advance, you will love Kenya.

Online hotel Booking reservations are a popular method for rooms booking. Travelers can book rooms on a computer by using online security to protect their privacy and financial information and by using several online travel agents to compare prices and facilities at different hotels.
