6 gadgets you didn’t know you needed

by Manish Singh

I have to admit, I love a funky gadget. Whether it’s the latest party piece or the most convenient way to get around doing jobs I hate, I have to have it.

There’s something about a shiny new toy that is exciting for even the most mature, professional of us adults- gadgets make us feel like children again.

And whatever way I can find to get back to my old, carefree life playing in the sand and riding bikes, I’ll take it.

So to add some fun to your tired eyes, I’ve compiled a list of all the gadgets I’ve collected over recent years that I now love or can’t live without (or both).

Some are more practical, and some are just for the heck of it. Either way you decide to go, I’m sure you’ll discover something you simply have to have. (Warning- you will probably want them all).

Here are the 6 gadgets you didn’t know you needed until I, in the most loving way possible, broke your bank sharing them with you.

Robotic hoover

Now, this may just be the clean freak in me coming out, but I love my RoboVac. There’s nothing I hate more than heaving my heavy, wired vacuum out of my cupboard of the abyss to then lug it around every room in my house.

RoboVac is amazing because I can just pop it on the floor and let it do its thing. I don’t have to do anything to it other than empty it and give it a charge every now again which is simply perfect.

I let it do its work while I do mine and we simply agree not to get in each other’s way. It’s the perfet working relationship.

Plus, it’s basically part of the family now. I’m pretty sure most of my family would rather interact with the vac than with me.

Sunrise alarm clock

If like me, you struggle to get out of bed in the morning, this may just be the gadget you’ve been missing all of your life. Alarm clocks are harsh, loud and make instantly put me in a bad mood from the moment they ring out.

However, I’ve not discovered a much more peaceful way to be awoken from my slumber each morning.

A sunrise alarm clock gradually lights up the bedroom to wake you up at your desired time much more gently.

The light eases you into your day so sensitively that you’ll awaken feeling refreshed and ready to go (most days, anyway).

Custom star map

Sometimes you just need a little reminder of the good things in your life. I was first attracted to the Twinkle in Time custom star maps for their beautiful way of conveying a message.

All you need to do is pick a date and a map with be created for you, displaying exactly how the stars were positioned at that moment in time.

I had one created for my birthday and it’s the most perfect conversation point at parties, or even when those awkward friends or family come around.

Custom star maps are designed to capture your memories in a unique way. I’ll definitely be buying more as I reach further milestones.

Light up mirror

I’m not only talking to the ladies when I say that a light-up mirror is a must-have. Yes they’re a little pricier than your average mirror, but they’re perfect for doing your hair and makeup.

I see mine come in handy the most when the darker mornings come around or my partner is still sleeping – using a light up mirror means I don’t have to turn the main light fittings on.

It’s the best cheap alternative to studio lighting you’ll ever purchase and will leave you wondering why you didn’t get one sooner. Plus, there’s plenty of gorgeous designs out there. I love mine from Weily – the lights are great and there are three mirrors all with different magnification settings.

Kool8 bottle

A bottle that keeps both your tea hot and your water cool you say? I do! My Kool8 insulated water bottle goes everywhere with me: to the office, to the gym, and even sits at my bedside.

I love it for its unique, stylish design, and its ability to keep my drinks at exactly the temperature I want them.

Kool8 bottles even come with their own tea infuser for you hot drink enthusiasts out there, but for me, I simply love how cold my water stays all day long.

They’ve even been praised by Cool Things Chicago for being socially conscious and durable.

If you’re looking to stop buying one-use-only bottles and want something that will last, Kool8 is the way to go.

Bluetooth headphones

If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s wires. When I’m working out or even just doing the washing up, the idea of wires is one that particularly annoys me.

This is why I love my Sony wireless headphones. The idea that I can go for a run without my earphones falling out or me having to hold onto my phone is amazing.

I simply pop my phone in my pocket, or if I’m not on the move simply put it down nearby, and still get amazing sound quality without all the hassle.

I don’t think I could ever go back to wired headphones now! Bluetooth is simply so much easier and as long as you remember to give them a charge every now and again, you’re golden.
